Overview

Ighil M’Goun, with its 4,071 meters of altitude, constitutes the third highest peak in Morocco after Djebel Toubkal and Djebel Ouanoukrim.

Day 01 :
Depart by minibus (4 hrs drive) east from Marrakech into

the Atlas mountains to the Ait Bougmez valley. Picnic lunch en route. Commence a two and a half to three hour trek from Bougmez valley (1800m) near Tirouza and climb along the Arous valley through villages to the Ikkis shepherd hut (2200m). Arrive at camp for the night where you will be served by your cook. You will sleep in 2 man ‘igloo’ style tents on proper matresses with sheets. There are wc facilities at the camp.

Day 02 :
Breakfast, then leave the camp and climb the Tizi

Azdremt pass (2950m) and then on to the Oulilimt valley. (6 hour walk with lunch en route). Arrive at camp near Mgoun springs. Dinner at the camp.

Day 03 :
Breakfast, then walk along the Mgoun river

through the Oulilimt valley to Ain Aflafal springs. (5 hour walk with lunch en route) arrive at the camp near Tighremt n’Ait Ahmed. Dinner at camp.

Day 04 :
Breakfast, then continue to walk along the Mgoun river

through many beautiful villages in the Ouzirimt valley (5 and a half hours walk with lunch en route). Arrive at the camp near Imi N’irkt (2100m)

Day 05 :
Breakfast then walk to Aguerzeka (1850m) passing

through narrow gorges (5 and a half hours walk with lunch en route) where you will meet your minibus or 4×4 who will drive you back to Ouarzazate via Kelaa M’Gouna and the Dades valley (2.30 hrs drive).
